Activities

In early 2002 the DMP undertook a bottom-up, participatory planning process to prepare for  the launch of GEF/UNEP Phase I. Each of the nine member countries prepared a logical framework, outlining planned activities, indicators of achievement, means of verifying those achievements, and assumptions.

These country frameworks were then integrated into larger frameworks for each of the two sub-regions, viz. West Africa, and East/Southern Africa.

Finally, the sub-regional frameworks were integrated into a global DMP framework.

The seven components of the global framework are described at the links below:

1. Ecological Monitoring and Assessment

2. Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Use

3. Capacity-Building

4. Alternative Livelihoods

5. Policy and Legal Framework

6. Extension of Sustainable Natural Resource Management; and

7. Stakeholder Participation.
